Landon IP began as Landon Stark Cantwell & Paxton and Betty Byrd Inc.

In 1948, the USPTO granted few patent stenographers the right to re-type patent file histories for the public. Kitty Cantwell was fortunate to obtain PTO permission and began work for patent attorneys that year. She later sold her business to Pat Paxton, and the company changed its name to Cantwell Paxton Inc.

Pat Paxton grew Cantwell Paxton into a large service bureau, focusing on patent and trademark files, monitors, patent copies, certification, legalization, and USPTO problem solving.

Landon & Stark Associates was organized in 1986. At that time, Barbara Landon and Rita Stark began their partnership as a patent and trademark file history provider for GE RCA of Princeton, New Jersey. Both women were former patent secretaries at Stevens Davis Miller and Mosher in Washington, DC, and were known for assembling high quality patent and trademark files and exceptional service.

In 2003 Landon & Stark Associates purchased Cantwell Paxton and the combined company operated as Landon Stark Cantwell & Paxton until late 2004.

In 2004, Landon Stark Cantwell & Paxton purchased Betty Byrd Inc., another patent stenography provider that began in 1960. Betty Byrd started as a direct competitor to Kitty Cantwell and for years was known as an exceptional typist of patent file wrappers. Betty Byrd Inc remained independent for 44 years until the company was merged into Landon Stark Cantwell & Paxton.

In 2004, Landon Stark Cantwell & Paxton was then merged into Landon IP Inc. Landon IP is now one of the largest privately held patent and trademark search, analysis, and consulting firms in the United States. The company sells IP information and services to 7,000 companies and law firms worldwide.

In 2006, Landon IP was awarded a long term contract to conduct PCT patent searches for the USPTO in the fields of mechanical engineering, life sciences, physical sciences, and electrical communications. Landon IP is the only company to survive both the USPTO search pilot and be awarded a full contract.

In 2006, Landon IP purchased Berlin & Associates and Patent Resources Group, Inc.
